The Sweet Grass Hills and Writing on Stone Provincial Park near my home town. This was my favorite place to go with family growing up!

Who is Miss Miller?
I was born and raised in a very small town called Milk River which is just 45 minutes south of Lethbridge. I loved being raised in a small town because it taught me how to grow up with a sense of community and to learn how to take care of those around me. I think this is part of the reason why I enjoy this profession so much - is because I get that same sense of family while working close with colleagues to enhance a school community! My family back in Milk River includes both of my supportive parents and my 2 older brothers Danny and Devon. We have also been fortunate enough to have my new sister-in-law Rachelle join the family, and she is also a teacher (YAY!) Last but not least, I also have a bichon yorkie named Bentley who I spoil like crazy because he is my first dog that I have ever had!
I decided that I wanted to become a teacher way back in Grade 9 while doing a job shadow at the Milk River Elementary School. During that day I had the chance to make a difference in one particular boy's life, which hooked me into the profession... and I haven’t looked back since! I have loved every age group I have got to work with so far which I take as a sign that I am definitely where I am meant to be! I am currently teaching the Kindergarten class at Plainview Colony School. For my final PSIII Internship I was teaching Science, Health, Physical Education, Social, and Math to a Grade 4/5 combined class at St. Catherine’s School in Picture Butte. My Professional Inquiry project was a collaborative project which was based around application-based learning in Math, with a specific focus on developing and implementing application-based games and hands-on learning into my classes. My previous student teaching experiences led me to teach a Grade 3 class for my PSII at Jennie Emery Elementary School in Coaldale, a Grade 5/6 combined class for my PSI at St. Michael’s School in Medicine Hat, and a Kindergarten class during Education 2500 at Mike Mountain Horse in Lethbridge. During those practicums I taught the subjects of Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, Science, Religion, and Gym. Besides my student teaching experience I also taught swimming lessons for 4 years to various ages and did work experience for one semester in a Grade 4 classroom.
Growing up in a rural community meant that there weren’t always opportunities to do exciting things, which lead me to my love for sports and all things creative! Through high school I was a very dedicated basketball, volleyball, and softball player. I was able to take many art and sewing courses through distance learning programs in High School which really allowed me to expand some of my creative boundaries. Five years later and here I am finding new ways to channel my energy and creativity instead – through my lesson plans! I still have a love for sports, but I have recently focused on new sports such as golf and snowboarding instead. My other hobbies include just hanging out with friends and family, enjoying the outdoors, touring around, shopping, cooking, reading, and exploring new things online through Pinterest, TPT and Twitter!
