Artistic talents
Anyone who knows me knows that I have always been a very artistic person. My favorite form of art is realistic drawing, and I enjoy drawing people or anything that requires shading. Art has always been one of the ways of which I express myself, as well as a source of meditation if I am stressed. Throughout my University Education I made art be part of my major because it seemed to be the best way to "de-stress" myself from other courses. I usually find that I am significantly more passionate about a project if I have the chance to incorporate something artistic or creative into the final result, which is probably why I love teaching so much! One of my favorite ways to give back to the community is to volunteer my artistic abilities as a way of brightening up something in the community or sparking community spirit! For example, when our local swimming pool remodelled their kiddie spray park I offered to paint friendly characters all over the floor so that it could serve as a more welcoming space for families (unfortunately, I never got pictures of it though!) The pictures below exemplify just a few of my art projects that I have done in the last few years with explanations about each piece.
Another one of my special artistic talents is sewing! I recognize that this is a bit of an odd hobby for someone of my age, but I had taken sewing through distance learning all through high school, and I really enjoyed it! I love being able to take something from scratch and turning it into something beautiful! I think that this skill might come in handy as a teacher because I could help make costumes for plays, I could teach home economics, and I could make other projects for student gifts! Below are a few pictures of my recent sewing projects, click on the images to enlarge the photo and to read the captions!
Volunteering
Although I have done lots of small volunteering projects throughout the years, I haven't been very good about documenting them! Some of my smaller projects included helping out at the local library, refereeing sports, volunteering on committees, and volunteering at the old folks home. Sometimes when I am home in Milk River, I will go to the local elementary school and just volunteer for a few hours helping teachers out however I can! One big volunteering project that I did was committing to be the assistant coach for our grade 6/7 girls volleyball team. It was a great experience that was very rewarding, and I feel that coaching will be an area that I continue to volunteer for in the future! Below are pictures of some of my volunteering projects - I hope to be adding more pictures to this gallery soon!
During my PS3 I was able to contribute to the school community by doing some volunteering such as supervising the mini-basketball, and by joining the staff soup club.

TECHNOLOGY PROFICIENCY I like to think that I am fairly proficient when it comes to using technology and figuring out new tools. I even took an entire web-based learning course online for one of my education electives! I am proficient in navigating online and using programs such as Notebook, Word, Prezi, Weebly, and Photoshop. Check out my BLOGGING & TECHNOLOGY page for examples! RELIGION
I am a member of the catholic church. I have been through the religious sacraments of baptism, first communion, reconciliation, and confirmation so far. When I joined the Separate school division I was invited to attend Faith Formation meetings where I would develop a Faith Portfolio. Here is the resulting Faith Portfolio. 4-H I was a member of local 4-H clubs for 4 years. I was part of clubs such as crafts, sheep 4-H, photography, and beef 4-H throughout those few years. I think that participating in 4-H while growing up taught me lots of valuable knowledge that I still use today such as an appreciation for volunteer work, how to run meetings, how to work as a team, and so on. However, the main thing that 4-H gave me in regards to teaching was definitely my public speaking skills! I have to thank 4-H for giving me the ability to confidently stand in front of a classroom today! TRAVEL
I have travelled to quite a few places in the world which I think can be a very beneficial as a teacher for teaching about other countries in subjects such as social studies. Some places that I have travelled to include Thailand, England, France, Germany, Switzerland, Cuba, Mexico, and various places in the United States such as Las Vegas, California, and often to Montana or the Canadian Rockies. I have also worked for Travel Alberta which means that I have a knowledge base about Alberta's special attractions, historical buildings, and protected parks! |
Athletic awards
Although I have been out of competitive sports for quite some time, my years of playing basketball, volleyball, and softball really impacted a lot of my views about teamwork. If you read some of my reference letters from old coaches you will find that I always strived to be a positive player in and out of the game. My hard work in sports definitely paid off during my final year when I was voted by teammates to be the captain of my team for all 3 of the sports that I played, and was nominated "player's player" and "coaches player" in some of the sports as well.
