2014 Olympic Games
The 2014 Winter Olympics lent itself for an opportunity to do some really fun "mock Olympics" in gym class. The kids had already been involved in Olympic research projects and Olympic dioramas, so they were super excited to actually DO some of the sports that they had been learning about! Check out this video to see how I implemented everything from a torch run all the way to bobsledding!

Gymnastics
I did an entire unit on gymnastics, which was a LOT of fun! I created a "textbook" full of moves, and we spent the first few weeks practicing our skills and getting better and better. We did everything from jumps and rolls to partner supports and the balancing beam!
Then to finish off our unit, the kids were given the final project of creating a group gymnastics routine to a song of their choice. I set out certain criteria that had to be made, gave them planning pages to try their routine out, and we went over the rubric together as a class. HERE is the outline and rubric that I used. Below are some examples of some great performances!
